A logo is there to identify a business, product or service in its simplest form via the use of a brandmark, wordmark or combination of both. Our logo development process goes through several stages to define just that. But a logo alone is unlikely to add sufficient value to a business. Logos in general are only meaningful in context. The logo, the brand strategy, the tone of voice, the visual identity and guidelines all together play a part in establishing the brand image.

Logo development process

Our logo development process is a combination of research, strategic thinking and quality graphic design. It’s important that the logo speaks the right message to your target audience. That’s where the research comes in. It’s equally important that the logo is unique to help differentiate you within your marketplace. That’s where strategic thinking comes in. And it’s equally important that the logo is carefully crafted, with attention to the smallest detail. That’s where quality graphic design comes in. The work that goes behind creating a logo can sometimes be difficult to explain and understand. Even a fairly simple logo can take weeks to finalise. When it comes to logo design we have a particular process:

Step 1 — Discovery

The first step when designing a logo is research. This includes understanding what the brand is about, the business goals, the industry and its competitors. This discovery phase is done through a client brief, brand strategy work, research and discussions with the client.

Step 2 — Concepts

Once the research has been conducted we start with our creative thinking. The concept phase includes sketches and defining possible design directions.

Step 3 — Design

The design phase of a logo development involves selecting concepts and executing them digitally. The design phase requires attention to detail, even if the logo to the layman looks simple. The logo designs are presented in context of applications relevant to the business industry, showing all variants, colour options, overlay with brand imagery, and mock-ups to show the logo in situ.

Step 4 — Revisions and approval

Once a design has been chosen we work with the client to arrive at the best solution and finalise the logo, making tweaks and changes where necessary.

Step 5 — Delivery

When the logo design is finalised we prepare and deliver the final files. These include variations of the logo in both Vector and Bitmap file formats, in colour, black and white. The final delivery can also include identity guidelines.
